Cheap Milwaukee 48-32-1500 Quik-Lok 38-Piece Hex Shank Drilling and Driving Bit Set

I got a Milwaukee drill for Christmas this past year, the M18 2601-22 Kit, it was a total surprise to me and I was very excited about it as prior to this I did not own a drill that I could call my own, I had been borrowing my Father's awesome year old or so heavy duty cordless Milwaukee, well I am pretty sure he got sick of that and told my uncle to get me a damn Milwaukee drill because I loved his so much! Anyway I won't talk about the drill too much here because I want to focus on this bit set, but obviously the drill kit came with everything I needed, carrying case, two batteries, charger, ect. but they didn't even include a SINGLE Phillips bit which is pretty cheap IMO but maybe they assume everyone has tons of them laying around. I did happen to own a few hole saws as well as regular drill bits already but nothing for screwing fasteners so I wanted to get a nice basic set (under ) that came in a good storage case and would include a variety of screwdriver bits, nut setters, adapters, ect. I was not so concerned about the drills bits it came with to be honest nor was I expecting to buy a kit that came with drill bits in it when I was looking, I plan on getting a seperate set that contains only drill bits soon.

When looking at different brands in the store this one caught my eye for a few reasons, one it was made by Milwaukee and the case looked nice and matched my drill case haha, mostly kidding function over form always! The main thing that drove me to it was that it had a excellent mix of screw driving bits ranging from plenty of Phillips including #1, 2 and 3, 4 plain slotted, 3 doubled sided slotted/Phillips which is very nice as well as 6 different sized Robertson bits or the Square ones that are mainly used for Decking Screws. The only thing I was disappointed to find missing were Torx and Hex bits but I doubt I will ever be using my power drill on Torx bolt as they are usually very small and found on smaller electronics like laptops. Plus Milwaukee does have you covered with another 40 Pc. kit (model 48-32-1505) that is dedicated to just screw driving bits and includes Torx and even Tri-Wing! So if you have no need for 7 Drill Bits and don't care about the little Quik-Lok system you may want to save a few bucks and get that kit. Again I was looking for an all around start kit with a little of everything and then I am buying the specific function kits as I need them.

So as I mentioned in addition to the screw driving bits included are 7 Titanium coated drill bits which I have used a few times thus far and had no issues with, of course they are going to break people esp. the smaller ones, that is why most 21 Pc. Drill Bit sets include 2 of each smaller size. Metal gets very hot while drilling and then as you know it cools and after a period of time it can only take so much of that and a weak point will form and they will snap, that is life. A few other nice little bonuses that I was not expecting are two magnetic nut setters (1/4th and 5/16th), 2 adapters for popping standard 1/4th or 3/8th sockets onto them and effectively turning your drill into a mini impact wrench, I would not recommend you go and try pulling the lug nuts off your car or anything as you will probably break either the bit, yourself or the drill!

The Quik-Lok release is something I find very handy to have and I always have the short stubby one in one of my two drills, it makes bit changes a snap and you can literally use every bit included in this kit with the adapter, although I would not recommend using the drill bits with it as it tends to make them a bit wobbly. When shopping for a basic bit set I found this set to be a good balance of both screw driving bits, drill bits and some very convenient goodies that I would have edned up buying seperately for a piece anyhow. If you are a contractor and use this everyday then yes I am sure you are going to snap off quite a few of the bits, esp. the drill bits but you should have a separate set for drilling needs anyway. But looking at the big picture this costs - for a 48 piece set so what more can you expect! My dad is a contractor and he even loved this set and said it should be more than enough or what I will be using it for.

Finally A few random comments/observations, the storage case it comes with is very nice, sturdy with a good strong latch and heavy rubber on either end of the case to protect it from cracking the plastic if dropped. Also the bits stay in place tightly in my case, I have dropped mine already and only 2 or 3 popped out of their slots, maybe that is because it is new. I noticed that many of the reviews here complain about the Quik-Lok system and how it doesn't save you any time because you need to use two hands to release/change the bit. But that is not true in my case, you can easily do it all in one monition with one hand. Overall I thought it would be a novelty feature that would go unused for the most part but I really do love it for screwing jobs that require you to change bits often, it j makes switching out bits that much quicker and easier. Like I mentioned above about the only thing I do not use the Quik-Lok for is the drill bits, I have tried it a few times and it worked fine but with the bigger bits I feel like there is too much of it sticking out too far and it puts undue stress on the bit, it also put too much play in the bit which can cause you to drill an off center hole. Again I didn't buy this for the drill bits, they were and added bonus for me, if they break oh well but they are holding me over until I buy an actual dedicated drill bit set. Which will probably end up being the 20 Pc Milwaukee(part number 48-89-1105) which comes in the same style of case and includes all the common bits as well as 2 of each for the smaller sizes. For the I think I will be hard pressed to find a better or more complete kit without spending over on Cobalt bits which are overkill for my usage. Well that was a long review about a drill/driver bit set! I hope a few people who may be reading this found it helpful.
